Susan Landry, MCP, NCC, LPC

Treating the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of eating disorders and related conditions is my aim. I, myself, have recovered from anorexia and bulimia, giving me unique insights and the ability to empathize with my clients. I am passionate about helping others find freedom from eating disorders. My personal approach to healing is Christ-centered; however, I respect the beliefs of all my clients, and spiritual issues will be discussed only if clients express a desire to do so.

EMDR can be successful in the treatment of trauma that may be related to the eating disorder. Sequences of eye movements are done until the memory of the event or trauma becomes less disturbing and is more associated with positive beliefs and thoughts. EMDR has an effect on the way that the brain processes information. When normal processing is resumed after a series of EMDR sessions, a client no longer relives the feelings, impressions and sounds when the traumatic event is brought to mind. The client will have the memory but the event is not longer distressing. This helps the person relate to other people and situations in a more positive and healthy way. This mode of EMDR therapy can be used as an adjunct with art therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
