Philosophy or Treatment Model
Underpinning psychotherapy work with Joanna is development of compassion, self understanding, self forgiveness and a reawakening of creative life force that equips you to live well without an eating disorder. If you have or have ever had an eating disorder, you may find what you need in Joanna's practice. Psychotherapy with Joanna involves four themes: slow down and then stop eating disorder behavior, heal emotional wounds, restart emotional/psychological development that stopped when the eating disorder started, support entry into the world as you rely on new found healing and inner strength. Methodology includes open ended conversations that lead to psychodynamic work, journal writing, non-diet approach, creativity stimulation and development, self psychology, CBT and new learning from neuroscience research. She also works with parents of a child of any age who has or had an eating disorder.
Joanna provides Skype video consultations for people who are reading Healing Your Hungry Heart and working the recovery exercises that accompany each chapter and/or others listed in the appendix. These consultation take the form of support and coaching as you share your experience working the exercises in your way and in your time. Appointments are scheduled in blocks of four, payment made in advance via paypal Joanna provides a free initial telephone consultation where you and she decide if a series of four seems right for you.
