I have worked in the therapy field for over 20 years. My specialty is eating disorders and addictions. I work with individuals, couples and families because once there is a designated patient, the marriage and the family suffer. Eating disorders are not about food, they are about feelings. I have been seeing so many clients recently that present with an eating disorder and after therapy begins, I realize that some drugs are also involved. I believe good boundaries are the way to freedom. It is very important for each individual look inside themselves and be honest. Making a decision to start therapy is a difficult one and embarrassing for some. Hard work is important as is being willing to work. Taking the first step toward getting help is often the most difficult. Therapy is about your strength not your weakness. Please call for help.

The Walker Wellness Clinic provides exceptional outpatient treatment for individuals struggling with eating disorders, an approach that differs significantly from traditional outpatient treatment. We have the resources to provide an assortment of specialized services that uniquely integrate mental and physical healthcare, managed by our entire professional treatment team. As a result, we offer one of the most all-inclusive outpatient treatment programs available.
We understand that your time is valuable. However, when it comes to caring for you, or your loved one’s health, nothing but the optimal treatment will do. Consequently, we have designed The Standard Outpatient Treatment Program (SOP) to meet the needs of individuals who do not require the intensity of an IOP program but still demand the highest quality care. The Standard outpatient program provides much of the structure of our IOP programs including full treatment team management, individual, family and group therapy, nutrition consultations, psychological, and physiological assessments. However, our standard outpatient program requires only three meetings per week.
The intensive outpatient treatment and day programs include a traditional approach such as individual, group, and family psychotherapy. Our dietitians and exercise physiologists offer nutrition education, meal therapy, resting metabolic rate testing, exercise prescriptions, restaurant experientials, and cooking classes. In addition, adjunct therapy such as equine therapy, art and music therapy, retail therapy, and psychodrama are offered and the patient may design the adjunct program to meet their individual needs.

Treatment Model: My counseling philosophy is that the most important part of
the counseling process is the relationship between the counselor and the client.
In addition, I believe that the second most important part of the counseling
process is the overall effort the client puts into his or her treatment.
Therefore, the two theoretical approaches that I use most often are
Client-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I value
Client-Centered Therapy because I have the privilege of learning about who my
client is as a person in an atmosphere of congruence, empathy and unconditional
positive regard. I also value Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because it helps my
client utilize time between sessions for practicing more effective life skills
through homework assignments that we agree upon in session.

I have worked in outpatient and inpatient settings for several years, prior to establishing a private practice, and am able to assess with some experience, the level of care an individual will need to progress. Recovery is a long process, often taking several years, and an individual's needs usually will shift over time. Working closely with a variety of institutions and care providers enables me to help my patients get their needs met and stay on track.

Treatment Model: Eating disorders are not genuinely about food or weight. The thoughts and behaviors having to do with eating, weight, and body image are symptoms of underlying psychological issues which drive the eating disorder behavior. Consequently, treatment is aimed at resolving the underlying issues and replacing unhealthy coping skills (i.e., the eating disorder symptoms) with healthy ones. Insight-oriented psychotherapy along with cognitive-behavioral techniques and other scientifically supported interventions are used. This process must take place in a collaborative, caring environment in which the client feels free to identify, explore, and express all thoughts and feelings. An individualized, multidisciplinary approach is used that addresses the psychosocial, behavioral, and medical aspects of these complex illnesses.
Dr. Michel treats Anorexia and Bulimia; males and females, children, adolescents and adults. She also works with Athletes, Compulsive Exercisers, Binge Eating Disorder, Night Eating Syndrome, Obesity, Compulsive Overeating, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

Treatment Model: I work with both adolescents and adults with a variety of issues but specialize in working with both men and women struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, chronic dieting, and/or body image issues. I believe eating disorders are not about food but are a negative coping strategy. Once the root issue is resolved the individual does not need the ED anymore and complete recovery can be achieved! I believe a multi-disciplinary approach (dieticians, medical doctors, psychiatrists) is critical for the best treatment and support for the individual. I practice from a cognitive-behavioral approach which is based on the belief that our thoughts greatly impact our feelings which affect our behaviors. If we change the way we think, we can change the way we feel thus changing our behaviors. I practice as a Christian Psychotherapist integrating faith and spirituality into treatment if the individual desires this added to our partnership. Working as a team together is vital in restoring healing and health to the individual.
