andrea@centeredwithin.comTreatment Model: Individualized treatment incorporating psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and self-psychology. Andrea draws upon her personal experience and professional training when working with eating disordered clients. It is her philosophy that eating disorders are the destructive "solution" rather then the problem to underlying issues. Eating disorders often become the voice of the individual, silencing the mind and soul. Andrea's goal is to provide a safe environment to explore underlying issues and learn new ways of coping. This in turn facilitates the reawakening one's authentic self.
Ms. Borgatello treats Anorexia and Bulimia; males and females, children, adolescents, and adults. Andrea also works with Athletes and Compulsive Exercisers, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Treatment Model: I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating), addiction (substance abuse, gambling), and self-injurious behaviors (cutting, burning). The above often reflect an individual's unconscious attempt at avoiding/distracting themselves from painful and intolerable affect. I believe that as an individual becomes more invested in his/her eating disorder, as a conscious or more often unconscious coping mechanism, the disorder becomes a severe problem in its own right. What was once used to regulate the self, gain a sense of control, and/or improve feelings of self-worth becomes a significant source of distress and actually impairs emotional, psychological, physical, and social functioning.
Dr. McGarr-Knabke treats Anorexia and Bulimia in adolescent and adult women. She also works with Athletes and Compulsive Exercisers, Food Addiction, Binge Eating Disorder, Obesity, Compulsive Overeating, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).
Treating Eating Disorders Since the Year: 2001
Payment Options: Cash/Check, Sliding Scale
I provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy to those whose functioning and mental health is compromised, usually as the result of affect dysregulation, intrapersonal/interpersonal conflict, addiction, dual diagnosis, etc. Our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs. I will then be able to offer you some first impressions of what our treatment work would include. You should evaluate this information along with your own opinions of whether you feel comfortable working with me. You should feel free to consult with another mental health professional for a second opinion. In addition to specializing in addiction and eating disorders, I also specialize in self-injurious behavior (cutting, burning, etc.).

Treating Eating Disorders Since the Year: 1998

Dr. Johnson works with adolescents and adults who have eating disorders, disordered eating, and/or body image concerns. Her approach to therapy incorporates cognitive behavioral strategies, particularly useful at the beginning of therapy to change unhealthy behaviors, and psychodynamic strategies. The psychodynamic strategies are used to help the patient understand why she/he developed these behaviors (e.g., we might look at how significant relationships and past or current life events contribute to the development of particular ways of thinking or behaving). This depth of self understanding helps the patient achieve self acceptance and the strength to move through life in a healthier way.

Ms. Stein works from a multi-dimensional perspective using a treatment team approach. This includes therapist, physician, and nutritionist as needed. Her approach is individualized to the client's needs and is eclectic, incorporating psychodynamic, CBT, DBT and self-psychology. She views eating disorders as serving a function, a coping skill, that over time, with the guidance of the therapist, can be replaced with healthy ways to express and manage feelings. In addition, given her own recovery from an eating disorder, she brings a depth of understanding and compassion for those struggling with eating disorders today.
