Treatment Model: As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental,
and comfortable environment for my clients. My belief is that the most important
component of therapy that creates change starts with, and continues with, the
therapeutic relationship. Overall, I use a very authentic, egalitarian, honest,
and direct approach with clients. My style stems from my belief that my job as a
therapist is to serve as a conduit for change in others; that the client's own
internal knowledge, strength, and commitment to change is what ultimately holds
the power. My clinical practice draws on humanistic, existential, and systemic
models of therapy. Using a holistic approach, I focus on the ability of clients
to make changes and find freedom in their lives by utilizing their unique
potential, accepting personal responsibility, and exploring the meaningfulness
of life that they desire.
Ms. Ortenburger treats Anorexia and Bulimia; males and females, children,
adolescents and adults. She also works with Athletes, Compulsive Exercisers,
Food Addiction, Binge Eating Disorder, Compulsive Overeating, Obesity, Laxative

My professional experience working therapeutically with
eating disorders includes both residential and outpatient settings. Through
these experiences, I have gained invaluable knowledge about the treatment of
eating disorders, the importance of working with a multidisciplinary treatment
team, and the unique set of circumstances that each individual suffering from an
eating disorder confronts. In my therapeutic work with clients, I stress the
importance of discovering what purpose the eating disorder serves in an
individual's life, and work collaboratively with clients to implement more
healthy behaviors so that they may achieve peace with themselves and their
bodies. In my practice, I work extensively with clients who have endured and
survived various types of trauma. Through these experiences in treating both
single-incident and complex traumas, I have incorporated the use of EMDR into my
work as a therapist. I am an EMDR trained therapist, which allows me to provide
a treatment modality for my clients (when appropriate) that can allow survivors
of trauma to find intense relief relatively quickly. Please visit my website for
more information about EMDR.
