The treatment program at Laureate offers two tracks of care – one for adolescents and one for adults. This allows us to continually ensure that we are offering age-appropriate interventions. A unique feature of our program is a continuum of settings, which allows us to place patients in the least restrictive, most cost-effective level of care. Both tracks have four levels of care: inpatient, residential, partial and outpatient. Eating disorders patients are not co-mingled with other patients at any level of care.
Acute Care: This level of care is for those who need to be highly supervised for either psychiatric or medical reasons. This is a woman’s unit only for patients with eating disorders. While patients are in the acute care clinic, they receive medical attention through physiological monitoring. The use of psychiatric medications and other agents to help stabilize the condition is also assessed at this time.
Residential Care: Once an individual has become psychologically and medically stable, we have the ability to lower the amount of nursing supervision. This lowers the cost of care and allows us to have the person remain in residence with us. The adolescents remain on the same unit and the adults move to a supervised home/dormitory-like setting on the hospital grounds.
Partial Day Program: Adults live here on our campus at this level and adolescents have one or both parents stay in Tulsa with them at either a hotel or short-term apartment.
Outpatient Care: This level of care is recommended for individuals who are new to treatment or whose symptoms do not require a more intensive setting. Individual, family and group psychotherapy, as well as nutrition counseling and medication therapy are delivered with minimum disruption to an individual’s work, school and family commitments.
