Director Dr. Lindsey Ricciardi: I am a clinical psychologist highly specialized in the treatment of eating and weight disorders. I started clinical research in the field of bariatric surgery 10 years ago. That work has been published in several peer reviewed journals and a full length book. Later, I completed a 2 year internship/fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals Eating and Weight Disorders Clinic participating in clinical research using Family Based Therapy (FBT/The Maudsley Method) for treatment of anorexia nervosa and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional/binge eating and exploring pre and post operative outcomes in bariatric surgery. When I returned to Las Vegas in 2006, my husband and I started a multidisciplinary eating and weight disorders clinic Creative Health Solutions, that we have nurtured and seen grow over the past four years. I spent two years as the Clinical Program Director at Center for Change Las Vegas, an intensive, specialized treatment facility for women with eating disorders. This was an invaluable experience for me as I learned about the utility of experiential therapies, facilitated challenge meals and shopping, and the value of spirituality in recovery. I also taught a DBT skills group for women with eating disorders and related issues. I love what I do. I enjoy helping people to have a better relationship with themselves, their bodies, food, and others.

I have been working with eating disordered patients for 16 years. I believe that the Intuitive Eating approach is best during recovery and afterwards. The Center for Hope of the Sierras is a residential center for the treatment of anorexia, bulimia and related disorders including diabulimia & co-occurring diabetes & eating disorders. The Center's philosophy is that in order to achieve full recovery, patients must redefine life on terms which are of true value and meaning to them, rather than cultural pressures to pursue a body-size and shape that makes no biological sense. It is the belief of The Center that eating disorder patients are unique, creative, caring and sensitive individuals who have lost a connection with their true inner spirit. To this end, the Center offers treatment emphasizing a therapeutic alliance and opportunities for self-exploration; esteem will naturally begin to develop as the self has begun to emerge. Upon admission, each individual is given a comprehensive evaluation that allows the patient and staff to develop an individualized treatment regime that meets their psychological and physical needs. The internist will provide a complete physical exam for all patients upon admission, and will provide ongoing medical care throughout the patient’s stay. Recognizing the importance of reintegration and reunification with family, the Center offers individual as well as multi-family therapy. Family weekend visits and conference call therapy for long-distance families are encouraged to improve family dynamics and help them gain a sense of understanding of the illness. Throughout their stay, the individual needs of each patient are continually reassessed. The Center emphasizes the need to separate the patient from the disease, and to anticipate the influence of the eating disorder on the patient's feelings, thoughts, and behavior; working together with the patient to combat the illness through our vast array of treatment options.
