Treatment Model: We are a recovery-oriented treatment facility as we believe that true recovery from an eating disorder is possible. In our program, each individual has a unique treatment plan because each person's recovery should be unique to her needs. Our entire staff's primarily focus is on creating a safe, comforting, and healing place for each individual, with an emphasis on building CONNECTION with the individual seeking care. Because eating disorders encourage isolation in the individual, experiencing healthy and reliable relationships is key to the recovery process.

We use empirically based treatment techniques such as Interpersonal, Cognitive-Behavioral, Dialectical-Behavioral, and Family-based therapy. We help individuals become physically and medically stable so they can begin to develop healthy eating patterns, and can identify and begin to heal the emotional issues that trigger eating disorder symptoms. We strive to provide quality treatment, multi-disciplinary education, and abundant support for the individual and her loved ones.

Treatment Model: Tapestry was developed to provide an affordable alternative to the high cost of extended treatment for eating disorders. We utilize a community-based recovery model that limits cost while providing a rich interweaving of resources. Treatment modalities include: Insight-oriented and cognitive-behavioral therapies, Equine Therapy, Nutritional Counseling, Expressive Arts groups including movement and art therapy, Real-world grocery shopping and restaurant practice, Healthy food preparation with Nutritionist, DBT Skills Groups, Yoga, Massage, Trager, and EMDR. Tapestry's Philosophy is centered around putting recovery into the control of the client while providing support, skills training, and education by staff. We do not lock the doors to the kitchen or follow our clients to the restroom. We work our clients to gain their trust so they are able to share with staff when urges to binge/purge/restrict arise. This assists in allowing the client and staff to identify triggers while in treatment, rather than be shielded from them and relapse when faced with those triggers after discharge. Our highly skilled staff are here to support and provide guidance throughout every aspect of treatment. Our Nutritionist works with each client on an Individual Basis to provide meal planning, nutrition education, cooking meals, and grocery shopping. A major part of our program is centered around the client learning to shop for and prepare meals that meet their nutritional needs. An individual meal plan is prepared for Breakfast and Lunch. A group meal plan is prepared for Dinner with the group coming together once a week to plan their meals that will meet each clients nutritional needs. We prepare the client to be able to grocery shop and prepare their meals for themselves and family and meet nutritional needs following discharge. It is our goal to assist our clients to gain all skills necessary to maintain recovery throughout the rest of their lives. We work with women who are actively seeking treatment and want to engage in a recovery program. For additional information, visit www.tapestrync.com or call Tina Nowak at 828-384-1654.

I view therapy as a collaborative effort between therapist and client. I serve as a guide who knows the terrain of the eating-disordered world, but each client is a unique individual whose path of recovery is specific to them. I endeavor to make therapy a safe place for clients to speak openly, to be vulnerable, to share the things that are hard to let others see or know. I respect the inner wisdom of each client. And I help my clients distinguish between the voice of the eating disorder and that of their true, core selves. I offer two therapy groups for women with eating and body image concerns: an anorexia/bulimia group for women dealing with restricting/bingeing/purging/compulsive exercise, and an overeaters group for women who eat compulsively/binge eat. There is magic in relating to others who share our struggles. Isolation and shame melt away, and group members have fellow travelers on the journey of recovery.

Her colleague, David Wiley, LPC offers therapy also for eating disorders and can utilize his anxiety and stress management specialties in treatment: Biofeedback & Alpha-Stem, exercise coaching. (www.lightedpathcoaching.org).  She is a Life Coach, Certified Creativity Coach and Entrepreneur Coach as well as a life-time artist. In a well-stocked Art Studio, she provides Creativity therapy which is designed for the client to explore their healing through expressive arts experiences. Creativity opens up the person to the right side of the brain which facilitates an avenue for healing that influences recovery, taking them out of the eating disorder thinking and into a deeper place in touch with their own inner world of emotion. As one enters into creative exploration, they tend to begin to unearth their authentic self, leaving room to move out of their eating disorder. Creativity Workshops include Life Vision work, Life Balance, and Creative exploration with a Coaching and therapeutic foundation. She uses mixed-media activities such as spirit collage, intuitive art journaling, intuitive painting, paper crafts, and guided imagery. Her work with clients in this area is based on the belief "without vision, people will perish." By exploring life purpose and developing a vision for their lives, a person can not only recover from their eating disorder issues, but can begin to flourish in the life that they deserve to live.
