Dance/movement therapy has been a longstanding component in a multidisciplinary approach for the treatment of eating disorders. This form of therapy is uniquely suited for those suffering from the symptoms of eating disorders since the goal is to engage the body as an ally in the therapy process. Ms. Eisner's treatment model is firmly grounded in psychodynamic theory integrated with an expressive arts, body/movement-centered and mindfulness-based approach. Using dance/movement, breath work and mindfulness mediation practices, clients focus on the sensations, messages, ideas, images and feelings associated with their bodies to awaken and deepen their body/self awareness. The fundamental goal of therapy is to affect change in body/self which leads to a genuine experience of control, clear body/self boundaries, deep self trust, positive body attitude and ownership of the body. Formerly with the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt, Ms. Eisner is recognized in Baltimore for her successful, innovative and creative approach to treating body image disturbance.
