The Charis Center for Eating Disorders is part of Clarian Health Partners (Methodist Hospital, Indiana University Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children). It offers psychotherapy and nutritional management for all ages, and medical treatment for children, adolescents, and young adults. A psychiatrist is on staff for psychotropic medicine management. Treatment is based on the assumption that eating disorders develop from multiple factors: cultural pressures, disturbed family relationships, individual personality factors and individual experiences, and physiological factors. The Charis Center believes that good recovery is achieved by collaboration between physician, psychologist, dietitian, patient, and, when appropriate, patient's family. Psychological treatment is integrative, emphasizing cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, and family perspectives. It may include mindfulness training to promote a wider perspective on life and prevent relapse. An 8-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which meets three evenings a week from 3:00-7:00PM, is also offered for individuals who may need a more concentrated experience in order to make progress. The IOP may also serve as a "step-down" from a residential treatment center. The Charis Center provides experienced, licensed staff members with advanced degrees who specialize in the treatment of eating disorders. Our senior staff members offer over 70 years of combined experience in treating patients with eating disorders.
