I have worked in a variety of settings with people of all ages who are struggling with eating normally. I believe that eating disorders serve a coping function for individuals, especially when they have experienced stress and trauma. That is, while they are not the most healthy way to deal with emotions, memories, or reactions, they do make the individual feel better in the moment. I work from a strengths based approach, meaning that I seek to build on what the person is doing well, while at the same time increasing coping resources that ultimately will be substituted in place of the eating disorder. I want to help my clients feel better and be healthy for both the moment AND the long term. In working with a client, I work holistically, focusing on mind, body, and spirit. I work collaboratively with clients, and seek to be a resource to the family.

I seek to help clients integrate their own personal and spiritual beliefs into the counseling process. I would characterize my counseling as “spiritually sensitive” as I am aware of the centrality of body, mind, and soul. I am committed to, and hold as sacred, each client's perspective and prerogative follow their own inclination as they pursue their spirituality. My own spiritual journey is distinctly Christian as I have experienced Jesus as gentle and life giving. I have known Christ’s love to extend outside tradition, norm, and moral dictates. Healing has been found for me in a sort of homecoming of self-awareness in proper reference to the selfless love and acceptance of Christ. A spiritual perspective coupled with psychological understanding are a strength of my practice.

Additional Communities Served: Atlanta, Emory University, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University
Treatment Model: I have been treating eating disorders since my first internship as an undergraduate and immediately knew that this specialty would be a good fit for me. I enjoyed the clients I worked with, who were predominantly bright, committed, hard-working and determined...which is why they seemed to struggle so hard to let go of their eating disorders. I am a relational therapist, who believes that treatment is a collaboration between the client and therapist. I am the past clinical director of a national eating disorder treatment center and have also been in private practice for most of my career, so I have worked with clients in every level of care. I have a strong belief that family involvement (whether it be education, support, or more direct help) is crucial to long term recovery. I try to partner with the entire system to try and help clients get the most support they can get from those available to them in their lives. I run two community support groups for family and friend s of those with EDs. I also work collaboratively with other clinicians, including an ED specialist RD and female psychiatrist in my office. The psychiatrist also ran ED treatment centers for 35 years. The RD currently works part time at a treatment center. We have many resources in the metro Atlanta area, as well as nationally.
