Treatment Model: My philosophy of eating disorder treatment is based on the most recent scientific research suggesting that anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are biologically-based mental illnesses which are triggered by dieting and perpetuated by malnutrition, with emotional stress as an aggravating factor. For adolescents with eating disorders, I use the Maudsley Model of Family-Based Treatment, a highly practical, empirically-supported treatment which enlists the entire family as a resource in supporting the patient’s recovery. For adults, I utilize evidence-based approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.
