Treatment Model: All of Center For Discovery’s locations are Joint Commission accredited and state licensed—the gold standard in healthcare today. Center For Discovery programs are staffed with eating disorder specialists including Certified Eating Disorder Specialists (CEDS) and Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitians (CEDRD). We maintain small, intimate milieus (treating a maximum of eight clients at a time), with separate facilities for adolescents and adults, because we believe that individualized attention is critical when it comes to providing effective and efficient treatment. Further, because treatment occurs in a home, and not a hospital, it provides greater transferability and internalization of the experience to life after discharge. Upon admission, every client is assessed by a multidisciplinary treatment team and provided with a comprehensive treatment plan. Our hands-on dietary program is second to none and includes individualized meal planning and preparation, exposures, restaurant and grocery store outings, as well as kitchen skills and nutrition groups. In addition, each client receives a minimum of six individual sessions per week: one each with the psychiatrist, physician, and registered dietitian, and three with their primary therapist.

Treatment involves multiple therapeutic modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), body movement dance, yoga and equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP). At Center For Discovery, family involvement is vital to our program. Families have numerous opportunities to participate in their loved ones treatment including weekly family therapy, visitation and passes, and individual therapeutic family meals. At Center For Discovery, we are driven by results and our goal is to provide the best, most effective eating disorder treatment in the field. Center For Discovery has an 18 year legacy and employs several unique interventions and technology that facilitates more effective ongoing communication with family members and outpatient providers during and after treatment. We routinely watch clients make great strides during treatment and to ensure that those gains are maintained after discharge we place particular emphasis on facilitating seamless transitions between levels of care. To this end, we are partnered with the Feinstein Institute for Biomedical Research to measure outcomes by examining the process of treatment, how clients fare post-discharge, and readmission rates. The data suggest that not only are improvements maintained, but that Center For Discovery clients actually continue to improve following their discharge. Our focus on thorough discharge planning comes from a well-documented understanding that it is the transition between levels of care that is typically the most challenging for clients. For this same reason, we work to continually expand our continuum of care and to provide residential (RTC,), partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) to the community.

Our Discovery Connect program keeps families and outpatient professionals involved every step of the way. At Center For Discovery the emphasis on long-term recovery is not only about the diagnosed issues, it is about the contributing factors that underlie those conditions. Center For Discovery developed a proprietary program over the course of two decades which means that both evidenced-based and individualized treatment is provided to every client. In addition, every client is assessed on an ongoing basis using the Recovery Report Card which identifies client’s current functioning over 10 criteria. These criteria are based on the American Psychiatric Association guidelines and have been extremely well received by eating disorder professionals and insurance companies. Center For Discovery treats co-occurring substance use, self-injury, and underlying trauma or mood disorders as well as offers separate residential substance abuse and mental health programs. Center For Discovery offers free weekly support groups throughout the country, and a Free recovery app http://www.discoveryinrecovery.com/. Treatment Model: Silver Hill Hospital’s Eating Disorders Treatment Program is nearly unique in offering both a dedicated eating disorders inpatient unit and an outstanding longer-term residential treatment program. These features, and highly skilled staff with great experience in treating eating disorders, make the Silver Hill program exceptional. This unique programming offers the safety of a higher level of care on the inpatient side with fluid and uninterrupted movement to a less restrictive and more advanced eating disorder treatment on the residential side. These combined yet distinct eating disorder programs allow us to respond safely, flexibly, and effectively to the medical and emotional needs of our patients.

Our eating disorder treatment center treats people 18 years and older, male and female, who are struggling with these eating disorders: anorexia, orthorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, rumination disorder, and body dysmorphia. As a psychiatric hospital, we are especially able to treat patients who present with serious co-occurring psychiatric problems, such as mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse disorders, and personality disorders, along with the eating disorder symptoms. These co-occurring psychiatric disorders often drive and complicate eating disorder symptoms; treating these psychiatric disorders is essential for successful and lasting recovery.

Silver Hill Hospital treats treats Anorexia and Bulimia; adult men and women. They also work with Athletes, Binge Eating Disorder, Compulsive Overeating, Rumination Syndrome, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

The mission of Silver Hill Hospital is quite simple – we are here to provide the best possible treatment to persons suffering from mental illness, addictive disorders or both. We have been carrying out this mission for over 80 years and have earned the reputation for being one of the premiere psychiatric hospitals in the country. When Silver Hill Hospital was founded in 1931 the Hospital’s founders established its guiding principles. Patients were to be treated with dignity and respect. They were to be active participants in their own treatments and agents of their own recovery. They were to be afforded both the best standard treatments of the day and the most innovative new treatments. They might remain at Silver Hill until they were ready to resume their normal lives. And all of this would take place in a tranquil, dignified setting designed to foster the process of recovery. Today, great leaps forward in understanding disorders of the brain – mental disorders and addictions – have revolutionized treatments. New pharmacologic treatments are coming along almost weekly. Recently developed, powerful and effective new techniques of individual psychotherapy and group psychotherapy are becoming mainstays of treatment. Silver Hill Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission.

Treatment Model: Walden Behavioral Care is one of the first eating disorder programs in the country to offer a continuum of care including inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment programs for adults, adolescents, males, and females with eating disorders. Walden also provides inpatient treatment for patients 16 and older who need psychiatric care and an inpatient mood disorders program for adults.

The eating disorder programs provided at the So. Windsor, CT clinic include: Adult Partial Hospitalization, Adult Intensive Outpatient, Adult Intensive Outpatient for Binge and Night Eating and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient.

To determine which level of care meets an individual's current medical and emotional needs, an initial clinical assessment is performed. After the assessment is completed, patients are referred to the appropriate level of care and assigned a treatment team including a case manager, nurse and physician. This team of experts designs a comprehensive treatment plan to meet the individual's medical, nutritional, behavioral, and psychiatric needs. Throughout treatment, patients are continuously monitored and treatment is adjusted to meet their needs. While many patients advance through the continuum, some patients will need to move from a lower level of care to a higher level of care to accommodate their current needs.

Walden Behavioral Care treats Anorexia and Bulimia; males and females, adolescents, and adults. They also work with Athletes and Compulsive Exercisers, Binge Eating Disorder, Night Eating Syndrome, Laxative Abuse, Diabetes and Eating Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).
