“Finding life. . . beyond food and fear” is the heart of my therapeutic philosophy. Most of my clients live in fear around how much food they eat or do not eat.  Their relationship with food has evolved into one of pain and hiding versus pleasure and health.  I use a Gestalt approach which gives voice to a person’s conflicting two parts:  The part wanting to hold onto the eating disorder and its benefits AND the part wanting to let go for permanent growth and healing.  Clients ultimately can reach a place where they discover choice, freedom and inner peace.

Adult Eating Disorder Group. Location: 7010 Broadway, Suite 205, Denver, CO. Mondays: 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Group facilitators: Julie Bonnell, MA, LPC, LAC and Gary Wareham, MA, LPC, LAC. To register call 303-430-6914.

Treatment Model: I work from a psychodynamic approach, and am specifically influenced by Self Psychology, Object Relations, Attachment Theory, Transpersonal Psychology and Intersubjective Psychoanalysis. The therapeutic relationship and insight gained is used to develop new capacities for feeling, thinking, eating, and relating to others.

Treatment Model: This is a deeply personal and effective mentorship program for sufferers that are ready to let go of their destructive thoughts and habits and embrace life. My understanding of eating disorders is both personal and professional and I combines these things to create a specialized program for every client. I work with the sufferer to garner understanding about trigger thoughts and situations and uses cognitive behavioral therapy to overcome unwanted behaviors. I believe that until the neurobiology behind specific eating disorders is better understood that causality is guesswork so should not be a fundamental part of treatment at this stage until research indicates a more through understanding. I believes that anorexia is disorder with a neurological basis and is a not a choice, for this reason there is no time when a sufferer is "ready" for treatment as such. Now is the time.

Ms. Farrar treats Anorexia and Bulimia; males and females, adolescents, and adults. She also works with Athletes and Compulsive Exercisers, Food Addiction, Binge Eating Disorder, Obesity, Compulsive Overeating and Night Eating Syndrome.

Treatment Model: My practice is geared towards adults and adolescents who are struggling with body image concerns and eating issues, such as emotional eating, binge eating, anorexia nervosa, and bulimia nervosa. Eating disorders often serve as coping tools for more serious and painful underlying issues. I work with clients to uncover these underlying issues, the various functions the eating disorder has served in their life, and the meaning of the disordered eating behaviors. Individuals who struggle with eating disorders tend to have difficulty tolerating painful feelings and use their relationship with food as a way to manage these feelings. I help clients explore healthy ways to cope with feeling out of control and with feelings of shame, sadness, and anger. I also work with people struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and stress management.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor I am living my passion of providing mental health services to women and families. I market to women, but know that I do not discriminate. Working as a community volunteer as I was rearing my children (some part of which I homeschooled them!,) I always had an individual woman or a group of women I was supporting. My mother was the same way and mentored women and families in her role as a public school first grade teacher. (I knew that wasn't for me!) It turns out I am educating every day with my clients about emotional wellness, relationship improvement, removing trauma's hold on them, Career Goals and Fulfillment, and more. I also appreciate working with professional colleagues or students of Counseling in a Mentoring or Supervisory mode.
