I work with women, men, adolescents, couples, children and families in individual and group therapy, combining the "talking cure" with individualized strategies to help you help yourself. She utilizes insight-oriented psychotherapy and honors the vulnerability that one may feel when engaging in this work. She also utilizes cognitive-behavioral techniques in order to help clients interrupt their self-destructive behaviors and replace with healthy and nourishing thoughts/behaviors. Although the therapeutic relationship with the individual may be the primary one, Ms. Ontiveros also offers conjoint sessions with loved ones to help facilitate a better understanding of the eating disorder, recovery process and supportive interactions. Ms. Ontiveros also treats related issues such as Depression, Anxiety, Relationship Issues, Substance Abuse, Trauma, Self-harm, Grief/Loss, and life transitions.

We believe that the experience of sharing your truth, relating to others' personal stories, and receiving acceptance and support can be a powerful part of the road to recovery. There will be a focus on reconnecting with your body in a healthy way, distorted thought patterns, relationship with food, interpersonal relationships, healthy boundaries and reconnecting with your authentic self. Eating disorder recovery is a life long but, not always a do-it-yourself process. Using an approach that allows people to feel both supported and empowered, I have helped many transform their unhealthy lifestyles into ones that keep them fit. With over 25 years in clinical practice and certifications in nutritional and life coaching, I understand the inner struggle of the food over and under eater as well as the triggers that maintain those struggles. Timing is everything with respect to one's readiness for change and acceptance for help. Let me help you take that first step toward being and staying well.

Clients have often told me that it is clear that I have a passion for what I
do, as can be seen in the dynamics of the therapy session. I want to hear from
you and listen to you, and I don't shy away from giving feedback, without
judgment or blame. Therapy can often be a mirror in which you can see yourself
more clearly and that is an emotional process as truths of how we cope are
revealed. In our sessions we will look at areas where you feel stuck or hopeless
and uncover unrealized skills, offer up new possibilities for action, and
connect you to motivation to change.

Treatment Model: I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with over 10 years experience, currently working as a private practitioner in Newport Beach. I provide emotional support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. With integrity, compassion and understanding at the core of my practice, I work with each client to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
My therapeutic approach is eclectic, encompassing many modalities of treatment, including Relational, Family Systems, CBT & DBT. I have specialized experience in working with Anxiety, Depression, Chronic Stress, Addictions, and Eating Disorders. I am extremely proactive, working to build on each client's strengths always offering the most natural Holistic approach possible.

Treating Eating Disorders since the Year: 2009
Payment Options: Cash/Check, Insurance (I accept Blue Cross HMO plans & All PPO Insurance plans), Sliding Scale
In addition to being a Psychotherapist, I am also a 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher, training at Cloud 9 in Huntington Beach. My approach to yoga is gentle and heart centered, concentrating on using the breath to cultivate mindfulness and connection to ourselves and others. I help to guide, support and empower my clients to build strength, balance, and flexibility from the inside out. My intention is to bring together the fields of mind and body healing and use the body as a vehicle for physical, spiritual, and psychological freedom. In my Psychotherapy practice, I incorporate both the philosophy and the practice of Yoga. An Advanced Yoga Teacher, I offer private yoga instruction as well as multi-level group yoga classes. My specialties include working with women who struggle with generalized anxiety, poor body image and low self-esteem. I often start my sessions with some kind of breath work — energizing breaths for people who are depressed, balancing breaths for those with anxiety. People with severe post-traumatic stress disorder, for example, are prone to losing their sense of being in the room when they experience a vivid reliving of their trauma. I have done extensive research and have learned to address both the mind and body in one-on-one sessions. In essence, I act as a witness to clients' exploration, with empathy and positive regard for their experience.

Treatment Model: Combination of Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic and Self-Psychology. Dr. Elliott believes in working in a multi-disciplinary approach for the very best treatment.
Dr. Elliott treats Anorexia and Bulimia; males and females, children, adolescents and adults including relatives of those affected with an eating disorder. Dr. Elliott also works with Athletes, Compulsive Exercisers, Night Eating Syndrome, Food Addiction, Binge Eating Disorder, Obesity, Compulsive Overeating, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).
Treating Eating Disorders since the Year: 2002
Payment Options: Cash/Check, Sliding Scale
Dr. Elliott's eclectic approach to therapy varies according to the needs of the client, and emphasizes a collaboration of psychodynamic psychotherapy, interpersonal therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and coaching/mentoring when appropriate. Working together from a relational approach, therapy will focus on how you to relate to others as well as to yourself. Dr. Elliott often finds that her Clients are incredibly gifted and interesting people, who have struggled with food or body image issues for a very long time. In an effort to deepen awareness and move through such struggles, therapy focuses on each Client's unresolved or unprocessed issues and conflicts (that he or she may not be consciously aware of) that may have caused or perpetuated the eating disorder. Through this exploration, therapy helps to look beneath the surface and link early family and peer experiences to current unwanted behaviors and experiences. While learning how to cope with your feelings directly related to food, eating, body image and weight, therapy is helpful in gaining control over your behaviors and symptoms, while also changing maladaptive patterns and facilitating your emotions. You will learn how to gain access to your “eating disorder self” (the part that is responsible for disordered eating behavior), integrate it back into your core self, putting the healthy self back into control. Dr. Elliott prefers to work with other health care providers in a multidisciplinary approach, where her patients can receive the very best care from providers that will help them to feel supported from a myriad of areas (nutrition/dietician, psychiatry, medical, etc.) This is done on a case by case basis as deemed necessary.

Treatment
Model: I use a combination of therapeutic interventions to work with the
underlying issues and emotions behind the eating disorder behaviors. My approach
is mainly eclectic, incorporating, psychodynamic, family systems, cognitive
behavioral and interpersonal psychotherapy. I believe to treat eating disorders
we need to address factors in the emotional, behavioral and environmental
realms. As we increase awareness of how we utilize our relationship with food to
manage our feelings and emotions, we can begin to learn to separate our emotions
from food, working through the underlying issues and implementing healthy change
behaviors. I help individuals develop the strength to overcome this dangerous
illness through increasing insight, and providing support and accountability. I
work collaboratively with a treatment team of dieticians, psychiatrists, and
medical doctors to ensure my clients are receiving the highest level of care. I
believe that each client is unique and requires individual consideration.
Clients are partners in the recovery process and I value my therapeutic
relationship with them.
