I work with the immediate problems you face in your life at the present time but I also will go back to your childhood to see if there is anything there in your experiences that has contributed to or caused any of the problems you face in the present. I will help you connect any hurtful ways you learned to think of yourself and then help you change them, also changing your relationship to yourself, food, your body image and your relationships. I also will help you work with other professionals who can contribute to your understanding, health and growth, including nutritionists, psychiatrists and general MD practitioners. I do this with the understanding that you already know a great deal about all of this but will be working with me in a new mode from what you possibly may not have done before. I invite you to call or email me and ask any questions you have of me and the work we would do together. I would look forward to working with you on your path towards health and being the person you want to be.

2740 Belrose Avenue, Berkeley, CA

Additional Communities Served: UC Berkeley Students, Staff and Faculty; Buddhist communities (Theravada, Tibetan, Zen) Jewish communities/congregations throughout the Bay Area

Office: 510-684-5676

Email: ronna@mindfulmanagement.com

Treatment Model: For the past twenty-five years, I have specialized in the dynamics of Mindful Eating. The clients I work with are struggling to find a way to make peace with a chaotic and compulsive relationship to food and eating. Generally, this work centers on two levels: food for the body (which comes and goes) and food for the heart, the only kind that lasts. It's by mindfully becoming aware and familiar with craving and desire and all of its manifestations that clients begin to form a different and more satisfying relationship to food. I was the psychologist for weight watchers international for nine years, where I was responsible for developing their behavioral weight management plan. My book, The Zen of Eating: Ancient Answers to Modern Weight Problems, is now in it's 16th printing. I see clients individually and in groups. In addition, I am launching a three year Mindful Eating Teachers Training this fall which is based on the management and mismanagement of craving and desire. I am on the Board of the Center for Mindful Eating (www.tcme.org) and offer teleconferences are various aspects of mindful eating. I work within a large community of medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, nutritionists and other specialists. I am trained both as a social psychologist and Vipasanna meditation teacher. Finally, I also offer consultation services to professionals interested in receiving a mindfulness perspective regarding their students and/or clients.

Dr. Kabatznick treats Obesity, Food Addiction, Obesity and Compulsive Overeating. She also works with Athletes & Compulsive Exercisers, Night Eating Syndrome and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

I am deeply committed to serving those who are struggling with food and eating issues. Helping people to properly feed their bodies and more importantly, their hearts, has become one of my most persistent life goals. I have worked with clients and groups throughout the Bay Area, the USA and internationally, exploring and teaching the basics principles of mindful eating. I gnerally run two or three mindful eating groups a year in addition to my private practice. As I noted above, I am in the process of creating and launching a three-year Mindful Eating Teacher Training Alliance (METTA) to train teachers (in a variety of professions) interested in mindful eating. This innovative program includes the function and power of food blessings, kitchen, shopping and menu meditations, the perils and promises of renunciation, dedication of merit, etc.

Treatment Model: My approach is psychoanalytic and is informed by feminism. I believe people suffering from eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia can benefit greatly from psychoanalytic therapy. It is imperative that they work through their often dangerous symptoms in relation to the confusing underlying dynamics that cause them.
