Do you – or does someone you love -- obsess about food or weight? Do you need to speak to someone trained to help you with these concerns? As a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Eating Disorder Specialist with 25 years experience working with people with eating issues, I have helped many families and individuals – adolescents and adults, females and males – address distressing and debilitating problems such as body hatred, under eating, binge eating, eating and purging, and other compulsive and addictive behaviors. I understand and work with the painful emotions – anger, sadness, fear, shame, guilt – that accompany these problems. In my work, I collaborate with physicians and other adjunctive professionals. Other services I offer include consultation, presentations, and workshops and free teleclasses for mothers with eating disordered daughters. My book, Dying to Please: Anorexia Nervosa and Its Cure is available through my website, EatingDisorderServices.net.

Treatment Philosophy: Therapy works best if you feel understood and supported by your therapist. I have over thirteen years experience working with people with eating disorders and many of my clients have told me that they feel very comfortable confiding in me. I use a combination of therapy approaches, each tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual client. These include cognitive-behavioral techniques, psychodynamic therapy, relational approaches, psychoeducational methods and addiction models to help you stop the cycle of your eating disorder. I was formally trained in the treatment of eating disorders. I created and ran the eating disorders program at a major metropolitan hospital, and currently work with individuals, couples, family members and groups. I run a free Saturday support group. I work with people suffering from bulimia, anorexia, binge eating disorder, and food and body image issues as well as other problems that often exist along side an eating disorder such as depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addictions, low self esteem, relationship issues, childhood trauma and abuse, and more. My office is two blocks from a Bart station, and my initial screening sessions are always FREE. I also have a sliding scale. Please call, email me, or check out my website to schedule your free appointment.
Ms. Bricca-Manodori holds an ANAD support group twice a month on Saturdays. This is a no-fee group for people recovering from eating disorders. Call 415-640-9862 for a telephone screening and location details.

therapy@victoriagreenmft.comTreatment Model: I am a psychotherapist specializing for over 17 years in food, weight, body image and exercise issues for individual adults. I have a personal history of an eating disorder so my own recovery path has led to this as my life's work. Being a nutritional consultant as well, we work on the body level to re-nourish, re-stabilize, and reconnect you to your body. We address the feeling level - the depression, anxieties, self esteem issues, and the thinking level that keeps you trapped - obsessing about calories, carbs, the gym, focusing on being a certain size/shape, etc. Central to our work is empowerment - learning to find and use your voice, set healthy boundaries, improve self esteem in all areas and develop healthier coping skills. Our focus is to normalize eating and change your relationship to food and to your body in a supportive, positive and hopeful experience.

Self Knowledge -- "Your hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights. But your ears thirst for the sound of your hearts' knowledge. You would know in words that which you have always known in thought. You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dream. And it is well you should. The hidden well spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea." -- Kahil Gibran, The Prophet
Although the Prophet says "you must know in words that which you have always known in thought" people who suffer from eating disorders need to be able to find "the hidden wellspring of their soul" underneath the bingeing, purging, starving, and dread of gaining weight. Our work together is the quest for self knowledge and the uncovering of faulty thinking (e.g. if I'm thinner, I'll be happy in every way), along with the battle to be freed form the tyranny of dieting and body hatred. Self knowledge and emotional knowledge are powerful, sometimes scary forces. That is why it is important to go slowly and hang on, even if therapy feels really difficult. I believe that creativity has a strong power to heal, and I use writing as a healing tool with groups and individuals.

Treatment Model: I believe that there is a meaning and purpose to disordered
eating and weight-related behaviors, and there is more to healing than simply
stopping behaviors. I work with individuals and groups, females, males, and all
ages with eating and weight issues across the spectrum, who want to heal with
compassion, acceptance and recognition of their individuality, as a whole
person, integrating body, mind, soul and spirit in their recovery process. I
developed and tested in doctoral research project, a pioneering process called
Decoding the Symbolic Meaning and Purpose in Disordered Eating and
Weight-Related Behaviors, to assist clients in their own self-discovery of
intuitive methods for sustainable change. I work with a Health At Every Size

I am passionate in helping people fully recover from disordered eating,
body-image and weight-related behaviors, as I struggled throughout my teen and
young adult years with these issues and an undetected eating disorder. At that
time, there were no treatment centers, no eating disorder professionals (that
anybody I knew, including doctors, nutritionist and therapists, had heard of),
nor words to convey my behaviors; it was an incredibly lonely, depressing,
anxious and isolating time in my life, yet no one seemed to know this about me,
even though all the signs were there. That was over 30 years ago, and shortly
thereafter, began my healing process. I strongly believe that full recovery is
possible with the right team of professionals, along with family and community
support, but most importantly, from the inner resources that are already in
place within the individual. I believe it is my task, as a clinician, to assist
my clients in finding those inner resources and expressing their unique voice,
and developing the skills and practices to care deeply for themselves in not
only their physical and emotional realms, but also care of their soul and
spirit, knowing that full recovery is not only possible, but sustainable for
life when true nourishment is found within. I am also passionate about
prevention of eating disorders, and I work with organizations like The Body
Positive and Andrea's Voice Foundation to get the appropriate messages out to
young people and families about healthy relationships with self and others,
self-care, expression of feelings, emotions and creativity, assertive
communications, and countering the cultural messages around food, nutrition,
body image and weight.
