Treatment Philosophy: Therapy works best if you feel understood and supported by your therapist. I have over thirteen years experience working with people with eating disorders and many of my clients have told me that they feel very comfortable confiding in me. I use a combination of therapy approaches, each tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual client. These include cognitive-behavioral techniques, psychodynamic therapy, relational approaches, psychoeducational methods and addiction models to help you stop the cycle of your eating disorder. I was formally trained in the treatment of eating disorders. I created and ran the eating disorders program at a major metropolitan hospital, and currently work with individuals, couples, family members and groups. I run a free Saturday support group. I work with people suffering from bulimia, anorexia, binge eating disorder, and food and body image issues as well as other problems that often exist along side an eating disorder such as depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addictions, low self esteem, relationship issues, childhood trauma and abuse, and more. My office is two blocks from a Bart station, and my initial screening sessions are always FREE. I also have a sliding scale. Please call, email me, or check out my website to schedule your free appointment.

Treatment Model: I am a psychotherapist specializing for over 17 years in food, weight, body image and exercise issues for individual adults. I have a personal history of an eating disorder so my own recovery path has led to this as my life's work. Being a nutritional consultant as well, we work on the body level to re-nourish, re-stabilize, and reconnect you to your body. We address the feeling level - the depression, anxieties, self esteem issues, and the thinking level that keeps you trapped - obsessing about calories, carbs, the gym, focusing on being a certain size/shape, etc. Central to our work is empowerment - learning to find and use your voice, set healthy boundaries, improve self esteem in all areas and develop healthier coping skills. Our focus is to normalize eating and change your relationship to food and to your body in a supportive, positive and hopeful experience.

Ms. Green treats Anorexia and Bulimia; males and females, and adults. She also works with Compulsive Exercisers and Food Addiction, Binge Eating Disorder, Obesity, Compulsive Overeating, Night Eating Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

The Lotus Collaborative

Office: 415-931-3731

Website: http://www.thelotuscollaborative.com

Email: info@thelotuscollaborative.com

Treatment Model: The Lotus Collaborative believes it's important that we understand the unique individual you are: who you are, where you've been, what you're struggling with, what your strengths are, and where you'd like to go. We believe in meeting people where they are at and that you don't have to want to recover from an eating disorder in order to get help or seek treatment. The Lotus Collaborative (TLC) has a unique name that speaks to the unique treatment we offer. Our treatment program utilizes the beauty and magic that makes Northern California so unique. Groups are occasionally held at the beach, in the redwoods, state parks, at the local farmers market, grocery stores, and local restaurants. We've found that this approach keeps treatment from feeling "stale" and stagnant, and helps clients engage in their local community resources. Our goal is to help clients practice recovery in their "real lives" so that when they transition from our program, they are more integrated healthfully into their community and home environment. We believe that healing can be optimized when clients are shown respect by offering them a beautiful, professional treatment center. Our staff is committed to treatment collaboration where each client feels heard, valued, and included in the process. We offer a balanced treatment approach with validated therapies for eating disorders that include interpersonal therapy, family therapy, group therapy, meal support, and cognitive behavioral therapy. We also offer coping skills, communication and relationship skills, mood regulation such as DBT, and nutritional counseling. Our therapy approach values collaboration, mentoring and educating. TLC does not believe in pressuring clients to give up their eating disorders. Instead, clients will be supported to achieve optimum physical and emotional health, whatever stage of change they are in. TLC does believe if someone would like to fully recover from an eating disorder that it is possible. Once an individual experiences glimpses of life without an eating disorder, we have found that recovery then takes on a life of it’s own.

The Lotus Collaborative treats Anorexia and Bulimia; males and females, adolescents, and adults. They also work with Athletes and Compulsive Exercisers, Food Addiction, Binge Eating Disorder, Obesity, Compulsive Overeating, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

Treating Eating Disorders since the Year: 2011

Payment Options: Cash/Check, Credit Cards, Insurance, Sliding Scale

Dr. Elizabeth Esalen is the Founder and Director of The Lotus Collaborative. She has extensive experience and expertise in treating eating disorders. She founded TLC San Francisco to answer the community need for a higher level of eating disorder care. The Lotus Collaborative is currently the only San Francisco treatment center to offer a partial hospitalization program. Dr. Liz is passionate about providing clients with a recovery environment in which they feel heard, respected and empowered. She believes a crucial stage of healing from an eating disorder is learning how to practice recovery while living at home. The Lotus Collaborative is designed specifically to integrate treatment and recovery into a client's daily life with minimal disruptions to your work/school/family environment. TLC offers individual therapy, nutrition counseling and family and couples therapy as indicated. Clients can also receive ongoing monthly medication management. Program is offered 7 days a week, Monday through Sunday. Group topics span goal setting, motivation to change, emotional regulation, cognitive behavioral, inter/interpersonal relationships, nutrition, meal planning, experiential, expressive, body and soul. TLC offers two free community support groups on Sundays for both those working towards recovery and those in support of a loved one working on recovery. For a FREE assessment or tour contact The Lotus Collaborative at 415-931-3731.

Treatment Model: I have been working with eating disorders for nearly 20 years. l now specialize in obesity, particularly (but not exclusively )focusing on individuals pursuing bariatric surgery as a solution. I find that the emotional aspects of obesity are rarely recognized by the medical community, and thus often fail to be addressed. If you are coping with obesity, you know that your head is as involved in perpetuating the problem, as is your stomach, if not more so. If you are post surgery, and in the maintenance stage, you have discovered that "fixing" your stomach is only part of the solution. There is still your mind to contend with, and your mind continues to send old messages such as "I am hungry", "I need food", and those messages send you back to the fridge and the pantry, despite your best intentions.

In my work, I assist patients through the process of deciding whether surgery is the right solution for them, by addressing the myriad of trepidations and obstacles many face in the decision process. With post surgery patients, we focus on "reprogramming" the mind, and replacing the old and unproductive set of statements the mind is habituated to, with a more effective set, that can support the gains achieved by surgery, and help maintain the weight loss. For those who are interested in gaining understanding into the causes and roots of the problem, we also examine the family dynamic and the emotional environment which resulted in "choosing" obesity as a coping strategy, to overcome emotional pain and difficulties in interpersonal relationships.

Ms. Smail treats Bulimia; adult men and women. She also works with Food Addiction, Binge Eating Disorder, Obesity, Compulsive Overeating, Night Eating Syndrome, Laxative Abuse, Bariatric Surgery Assistance, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

I believe that psychotherapy is a "talking cure". It is based on the premises that one's symptoms and suffering are the consequence of psychic patterns - blueprints of sorts, that are formed in one's early relationships, and endure through life. In my experience, early trauma creates dysfunctional blueprints, that in turn, result in maladaptive behaviors, such as unhealthy eating. In therapy, we aim to identify and repair those parts of the blue print that are in need of mending. Speaks English, Russian and Hebrew.

Treatment Model: I utilize an integrated approach to healing according to what your personal treatment goals are. I practice Eclectic Integrative Psychotherapy, which means, I try to do what works for the individual client. Some people enjoy and respond to mindfulness, meditation, hypnotherapy, somatic therapy and a more spiritual or mind/body approach. Others prefer a more analytic psychodynamic approach. Still others would prefer a behavioral approach with more homework. It's really up to you. I incorporate several different modalities into my healing work. This includes Hypnotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Journal Writing, Art Therapy and Psychodynamic work. Because human personalities are so dynamic and multi-dimensional, usually all of these different techniques are integrated and can change as the therapy continues and as your goals change.
