I have been very fortunate to have some of the best professionals and practitioners as my teachers and mentors. Treatment Model: The issue is not the eating but rather what goes on inside you that gets you eating in the way that you do. There is some internal, psychological, emotional need that is being served. Once we can understand that, the eating patterns will change. In order to better understand that, I use an approach based on psychodynamic understandings that will help us to get a clearer picture of where the issues lie for you and what the obstacles are that get in your way. In the process, I draw on lessons from the world of addictions and cognitive behavioral approaches to help with strategies in dealing with the behaviors themselves while we are simultaneously addressing the underlying issues in your eating difficulties.

I served several terms on the Boards of the Los Angeles Society of Clinical Psychologists and the Los Angeles Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. The EDCC treats all forms of eating disorders, males and females, adolescents and adults.
Payment Options: Cash/Check, Insurance, Credit Card
The EDCC provides a supportive environment with all the necessary components to help eating disorder clients cope with the underlying issues, current stressors, and biochemical factors that cause them to binge, purge, starve, and/or compulsively exercise. They utilize a multi-disciplinary treatment approach in order to address all aspects related to an eating disorder. Through comprehensive assessment and with feedback from clients and significant others, they develop an individualized treatment plan. Individualized treatment is an essential part of the program. The daily schedule includes a variety of group therapies and activities. Attention is directed toward creating a therapeutic milieu enabling clients to support each other in appropriate ways. Using psychodynamic, educational, cognitive-behavioral, and expressive group therapy formats, clients gain insight into their underlying eating disorder issues and interpersonal skill necessary for true and lasting recovery.
"At the EDCC we believe nutrition and exercise are crucial areas of recovery. We deal with nutritional status, metabolism, and biochemistry, and teach clients what this information means in terms of their recovery. At the same time, we believe that eradicating problematic behaviors is not enough. We believe it is essential to help clients to figure out who they are when they are not influenced by their eating disorder and what it is they want for their lives. We help clients to discover what the eating disorder initially promised a person and how they can get these desires in non-destructive ways. In addition to individual, group and family therapy, we provide education, nutritional counseling, life skills training, mindfulness and spiritual enhancement.
Eating and exercise disorders are progressive and debilitating illnesses requiring medical, nutritional and psychological intervention. Individuals suffering from these disorders often need a structured environment to achieve recovery. However, all too often a person does well in a highly structured, regimented environment only to fall into relapse upon returning to a less structured situation. Our residential programs for anorexia treatment, bulimia treatment and exercise addiction treatment are designed to meet the individual needs of clients and their families in a way that gives them an increasingly higher level of responsibility and "teaches" them how to recover and sustain it. The atmosphere at Monte Nido and its affiliate programs, is professional and structured, but it is also warm, friendly, and family-like. We use highly dedicated staff members, many of whom are recovered themselves, thus serving as excellent role models. Our philosophy and environment inspires people to commit to overcoming obstacles that are interfering with the quality of their lives."

Monte Nido treats women suffering from anorexia, bulimia, and exercise addiction.
Nestled in the foothills of Malibu on 2 acres of pine, oak, sycamore, and fruit trees, Monte Nido lives up to its name, "Mountain Nest". Surrounded by a state park with hiking trails that lead to the beach, Monte Nido is a secluded, gated estate equipped with a gym, Jacuzzi and a private bath and deck in each bedroom. Our home like atmosphere provides comfort in a unique setting where the challenges necessary for recovery take place. The Monte Nido program places a high priority on individualized plans and individual therapy for anorexia treatment, bulimia treatment, exercise addiction and chemical dependency treatment, as provided by Carolyn Costin, LMFT and Community Counseling.
"Eating and exercise disorders are progressive and debilitating illnesses requiring medical, nutritional and psychological intervention.
Monte Nido was established in 1996 and has been a model for several other programs.

I strive to help clients cultivate an approach to food that works for them. Our food supply is abundant and adulterated. Nutrition misinformation abounds. Food choices are often polarized as good or bad. The body adapts and changes. Eating can get tangled with other feelings and behaviors. Each client is a unique entity. Nutrition counseling provides an opportunity to learn how to work with your body.

I believe that recovery from an eating disorder is a multifaceted experience, encompassing emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of being. I tailor each client's treatment individually based on their unique needs, combining elements of psychodynamic theory, existential/humanistic philosophy, family systems theory, and spiritual elements such as mindfulness-based practices, delivered within an active, relational here-and-now focus.
In my work with clients, I draw upon not only my professional training and clinical experience, but also my own personal journey of recovery from an eating disorder. In addition to my specialization in eating disorders, I also have expertise with related issues, including addictions, depression, anxiety/stress, relationship/intimacy issues, and self-esteem.

Treatment Model: Because each client is unique and has different needs and issues, Sydnie uses as combination of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and family systems to help clients recover from their eating disorder. Recovered from anorexia for over twenty years, Sydnie views eating disorders as "disorders of the self" in which eating and exercise behaviors are used as "adaptive" coping mechanisms. Believing that eating disorders are not only about food and weight, but are symptomatic of deeper, more complex issues, these "adaptive functions" need to be explored and understood through an empathic relationship between the client and the therapist in order to facilitate complete recovery. Furthermore, throughout the therapeutic process, she believes it is essential to address any medical and/or nutritional issues by using a treatment team approach when appropriate.
Sydnie treats Anorexia and Bulimia in adolescent and adult women. She also works with Athletes, Compulsive Exercisers, Binge Eating Disorder and Compulsive Overeating.
