The Eating Disorder Center of California (EDCC) provides a supportive environment with all the necessary components to help eating disorder clients cope with the underlying issues, current stressors, and biochemical factors that cause them to binge, purge, starve, and/or compulsively exercise. Monte Nido is surrounded by national park, Monte Nido is a unique 6 bed facility for women with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or exercise addiction. Nestled in the foothills of Malibu California, 5 minutes from the ocean, the program was designed by Carolyn Costin and other recovered professionals to take place in a homelike atmosphere where the skills and challenges necessary for full recovery can take place. With a staff of 30 they can ensure that each client's treatment is individualized and includes 4 individual therapy sessions per week. Monte Nido offers Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy groups and individual therapy as well as experiential groups and mindfulness training. They also emphasize family and significant other involvement. Exercise and recreation are important parts of recovery therefore Monte Nido provides fitness training , yoga classes, hiking, equestrian therapy and much more. Carolyn Costin, the founder and clinical director, believes that individuals with eating disorders can be "recovered" where the goal is not only the absence of symptoms, but the resolution of whatever problems or needs the disordered behaviors are trying to express. I tailor each client's treatment individually based on their unique needs, combining elements of psychodynamic theory, existential/humanistic philosophy, family systems theory, and spiritual elements such as mindfulness-based practices, delivered within an active, relational here-and-now focus.
In my work with clients, I draw upon not only my professional training and clinical experience, but also my own personal journey of recovery from an eating disorder. Del Amo also offers an evening intensive outpatient program. The Torrance Memorial Hospital Medical Stabilization Program for patients with Eating Disorders is a multidisciplinary, initial phase hospital treatment setting for adolescents and young adults ages 13 to 28. The treatment team is highly experienced in eating disorders and includes an adolescent medicine specialist, licensed psychologist, adolescent psychiatrist, registered dietitian, registered nurses, and a recreational therapist.
