Treatment Model: First Education: Learn to be the weight you want to be and stay there permanently. Next Support: Irene supports and helps you through your journey to a stable, healthy weight whether you need to lose, gain or maintain. Once you understand how to do it, the emotional reasons for the disorder are addressed in a safe, caring and non-judgmental way. Finally Life Building Skills: Irene helps you fill your life back up in healthy ways. The eating disorder tends to fill one's life up in an unhealthy way. Without it, the emptiness needs to be addressed so that one doesn't run right back to the "safety" of the eating disorder.
Ms. Rubaum-Keller treats Compulsive Overeating, Binge Eating Disorder, Body Dysmorphia (you think you're fat/ugly/horrible) and Bulimia. She works with individuals who can not stop thinking about: what they ate, how fat they feel, how unattractive they are, how much the scale said today and how much they hate their body. One does not need to fit neatly into a box like "bulimic" or "anorexic" to have an eating disorder and/or benefit from treatment.

Individual Therapy/Private Practice
1314 Westwood Blvd., Suite 201, Los Angeles, CA
Additional Communities Served: West LA
Office: 310-203-7890
Treatment Model: In my therapy practice, I nurture a trusting relationship; one in which patients can feel safe to explore their thoughts and feelings. I work collaboratively and am interactive in my approach to therapy. In my experience as a therapist, it is the relationship between a client and therapist that is paramount in creating lasting change and personal healing. Developing trust, understanding and authenticity is essential before any meaningful healing can take place. I work with my patients to help them achieve an awareness of themselves and their personal histories in order to broaden and deepen their sense of self-efficacy and self-esteem. The focus of the therapeutic work remains the present, while we use the past in order to gain insight and process any traumas that may have occurred. By exploring and understanding one’s personal and family history, individuals can more thoroughly explore their choices and make better decisions to live a happier and more fulfilling life.

The philosophy of my practice at the Center for the Psychology of Women focuses on the roles that we play, the transitions we make between these roles, and how they affect the way we think and feel about ourselves. When women are suffering from unhappiness, confusion, and pain it needs to be understood that these feelings may not only originate from a mental illness but also from our gender, our society, our culture, and the political climate in which we live. If you are suffering from depression, anxiety, poor body image, or an abusive relationship we can work together to discover the other factors affecting these issues, and to help you realize that there is nothing inherently wrong with you.
