It also eases anxiety, depression, irritability, insomnia, compulsiveness, obsessive thoughts and worry. Combining a knowledge of eating disorders with extensive training in acupuncture, herbal medicine, meditation, qi gong (energy cultivation work) and tai chi, Ms. McIntire provides care that strongly enhances Western medical care and traditional counseling. She also has experience treating related issues such as trauma and addiction. In addition to the tools of Chinese medicine, she uses Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) to clear chronic tension and stress from the body. She blends these various methods into an individualized treatment plan which accesses and supports the body's inherent healing mechanisms.

As a clinical psychologist, I am trained in the science of psychology as well as
the art of psychotherapy. I utilize empirically validated treatment techniques
that have been scientifically proven through extensive research. I trained in an
eating disorder research clinic under the mentorship of internationally renowned
eating disorders expert, G. Terence Wilson, Ph.D in the 1990s and eating
disorders have been a primary focus and interest of study ever since. I
specialize in providing cognitive behavioral therapy for eating disorders and
other problems such as anxiety, depression, and substance dependence. I am also
trained in Family Based Therapy (Maudsley method) for adolescent anorexia.

I usually suggest reading or homework outside of the sessions to augment our
work. Since the balance of your life takes place outside of the session, it is
important that you collect data , "run experiments," and practice the new
techniques and strategies we discuss in your "real" life. Self-monitoring and
practice sessions give us important feedback on what strategies work for you and
facilitate progress as well as greater self-awareness. The success and pace of
therapy is related to the amount of effort you put in outside of sessions.

It can be difficult to believe that there is anyone out there that can understand your experience in having an Eating Disorder. Eating Disorders do not have a lot of good PR out there in the world that contributes to a widespread lack of awareness. Misinformation in the media also contributes to a general perception that Eating Disorders are somehow a choice that people make, and that the solution is to “snap out of it” and “just eat!” It is very common for a person with an Eating Disorder to feel frustrated and isolated when the people around them are having a hard time understanding what the disorder is about. They are complicated illnesses that manifest themselves in varying levels of severity. Not every person with an Eating Disorder looks the same, or acts the same. I believe that people should be treated as individuals, not walking Eating Disorders. I have experience helping people in every stage of recovery, from outpatient settings to hospital settings. I have a tremendous amount of respect for my clients who facing the challenge of coping with an Eating Disorder.
