is possible for everyone. In my practice I support you as you explore the
different experiences that have helped shape who you are and your relationship
with food. This involves exploring who you are in terms of your personality,
values and beliefs, as well as exploring your perspectives and understanding of
the experiences. Plus, you have the opportunity to explore the stories you have
been told that have influenced you in your life. This process helps you heal,

Because I am a dance and drama therapist, I guide individuals to use the
strengths of their creativity and body awareness to gain a friendly relationship
to their experience of themselves in their bodies. Our bodies hold our life
experiences, memories, and emotional lives. They are our creative resources,
through which we access our strengths, and experience our world in pleasure, as
well as pain. As a therapist who works with people dealing with disordered
eating, an important part of my work with clients is to help them discover ways
to manage what seems like a flood of urges to binge, compulsions to purge and
fears of getting uncontrollably fat. I teach that it is important to view eating
disorder behaviors, and body image distortions, whatever they may be, as
thoughts and actions that have become habitual reactions to deal with the
painful feelings and experiences of life. They are patterns that have become
coping tools, serving a protective function. They are also act ions that create
a cycle of destruction and pain on their own. Those that seek treatment discover
this and wish to find a way into true health, peace and loving self-care. I
believe that, in some way, eating disorder symptoms are an effort to do this but
were developed when the individual just didn't know any better. Viewing symptoms
in this way can lessen the shame and guilt bound up with these patterns.
Instead, they can be seen as signals, alerting us to a need that is not being
met. Unmet needs cause difficult feelings. When these are numbed out by
symptoms, the needs and feelings remain unconscious. One feels continually
unsatisfied, empty, hungry - without knowing why.
Recovering from disordered eating is a process of learning that takes time.
There are many rewards: gaining a self-knowledge based in a connection to one's
deep strengths, and trusting that eating disorder symptoms are not necessary for
survival. No longer impaired by the wounds underlying the complex of eating
disorders, life becomes an unfolding story in which love and acceptance of self
and can be shared with freedom.

With a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology, I am a Registered Clinical
Counsellor and have been working as a therapist since 1995. Often, the clients I
work with have come to counselling because they've allowed themselves to feel
the pain of how things are, and have summoned the courage to hope for how things
could be. They might be seeing that the solutions they've adopted to help them
deal with life's problems are no longer working and have evolved into problems
in their own right, or might be feeling cautiously curious to discover more
about themselves and the untapped potential in their lives and their
relationships. My intention is to help clients recover or discover a different
way of being in the world, a way that holds integrity, self-respect, and
connection to self and others.

*Training programs and consultations for therapists and interns.
You may have been put on diets or diet pills, forced to eat when you weren't hungry, weighed and lectured by well meaning (or not so well meaning?) doctors or relatives, or felt otherwise disrespected and intruded upon. I will not be weighing you or telling you what or what not to eat. This may feel like a relief, or you may not like that. Some people become dependent on others to tell them what to eat. I will simply be encouraging you to sense your hunger and satiation points, and to notice when you can follow them as guides, and when it seems too difficult. We may choose to include journal, art, or movement work, and guided fantasies to help you express what the eating problem has been trying to say. Ultimately, you will learn to eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. But in the meantime, when you cannot always do this, we will use the symptoms to point us to the triggers and issues in your life that you have been using bingeing, purging, starving and/or dieting to solve. We work these through one by one, until you feel strong enough to face these difficulties without depriving or punishing yourself with food. My Treatment Model incorporates Feminist Object Relations, EMDR/DNMS/LI, Psychosomatic Integration, ego state work and trauma work.
