Nationwide Support Groups:

Eating Disorders Anonymous Support Groups: www.eatingdisordersanonymous.org. Treatment Model: 12 Step (not addictions model), Cognitive-Behavioral EDA is a voluntary fellowship of individuals who meet together to share solutions for and recovery from eating disorders. The only requirement for membership is a desire to recover from an eating disorder. Their primary purpose is to recover from our eating disorders and carry this message of recovery to others with eating disorders.

Newport Beach, CA: I am currently in partnership with Timberline Knolls, one of the leading eating disorder treatment centers in the US, and launched "Lift the Shame," a web-based support group offering support/resources for moms and pregnant women with eating disorders. No matter where you live, all you need is a computer, iPad/tablet or Smartphone to join this FREE web-based (ANAD) support group. Santa Cruz, CA: Free Support Group - The Lotus Collaborative: TLC offers a free community support group on Sundays that includes meal support. RSVP is required for attendance. Sausalito, CA: Marin Vista Health and Wellness Center now offers a Free Support Group for Friends and Family of People Struggling with Eating Disorders. Meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday in Sausalito from 7pm-8:30pm. Located at Marin Vista Health and Wellness Center, 3 Harbor Dr. #110, Sausalito, CA 94965. Being a loved one or family member of a person struggling with, or recovering from, an Eating Disorder can be challenging. This support group is open to the public and will focus on education, community and support. Eating Disorders Anonymous (EDA) is a national volunteer-lead nonprofit that seeks to support individuals struggling and seeking recovery from an eating disorder (anorexia and/or bulimia). It is modeled after Alcoholic Anonymous' 12 step program. This in NOT a diet group nor for individuals struggling with overeating alone. Cockeysville, MD: Largely Positive is a free support group for adults of size founded in Wisconsin by Carol Johnson, author of Self-Esteem Comes In All Sizes: How To Be Happy and Healthy At Your Natural Weight. The mission of Largely Positive is to promote health and self-esteem among larger people. The support group is not opposed to weight loss but discourages dieting and other unhealthy weight loss practices. New York, NY: First Things First For Eating Disorders: First Things First For Eating Disorders is a free monthly interactive motivational workshop for those affected by an eating disorder. This popular group program was developed and is led by veteran therapist and eating disorders specialist William Skerker, LCSW, LRSW, and is Co-Administered by Ellen Schieren who provides personalized phone help and support. First Things First delivers a pro-treatment and pro-recovery message. It asks key questions about what you truly want, what your agendas might be, and helps participants identify and overcome obstacles and conflicts that prevent them from reaching their goals. Each First Things First topic reflects a theoretical position and its practical application for eating disordered individuals seeking permanent recovery. Many attendees have reported that First Things First has helped them increase their sense of self-worth, and that it has bolstered their commitment to decisions and behaviors leading to healthier and more fulfilling lives. First Things First For Eating Disorders is free of charge, and free of obligation. Seattle, WA: Anorexia Bulimia Anonymous (ABA) 12 Step Meeting. Anorexia Bulimia Anonymous (ABA) uses the Twelve-Step Program adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to address the mental, emotional, and spiritual components of the disorders of anorexia and bulimia. Many people who identify compulsive overeating as the primary component of their eating disorder have been able to relate to our program and have found recovery through it.
