Albany, CA - Merciful Eating Group. Facilitator: Jane Rachel Kaplan, PhD, MPH. This group is designed to combine psycho-dynamic, cognitive and mindfulness-based approaches to discovering and maintaining a healthy relationship to food, body, and weight. It embodies a sensitivity to non-diet approaches, self compassion, and developing a healthy lifestyle, even in the face of time, economic, and health constraints. We will use the book The Uncandy Bar, which I wrote to help people with the psychology of their relationship to food and body. The initial group is six sessions and will continue if members are interested. La Verne CA: Eating Disorder Support Group. This is an ongoing group for highly motivated adults who want success in their recovery. The group is a combination of goals setting, here and now processing and self exploration. The group meets Wednesday evenings from five-thirty to seven PM and seven thirty to nine. Lake Forest, CA: Family Resource/Support Group. This support group is appropriate for anyone whose loved one is or may be suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, compulsive overeating, or binge eating disorder. Participants learn about eating disorders, what they can and cannot do to help, and how to best manage the effects the disorder has on relationships. Licensed therapists specializing in eating disorders provide psychoeducation and tips to help families gain coping skills to better facilitate the recovery process. The goal of this group is to help the members develop skills for effectively living their lives without compulsively eating, binging, purging, not eating at all or compulsively exercising. Often we just don't have the skills needed to do so. This program was designed to help each member achieve an enhanced quality of life. Through the following modules: (1) Core Mindfulness –To increase self awareness and learn to focus effectively on one thing at a time. (2) Distress Tolerance Skills- Consist of techniques and crisis survival strategies. These skills help individuals to behave in a less impulsive and self-destructive manner. Montclair, NJ - Young Adult Eating Disorder Group. This weekly psychotherapy group is for young adult women struggling with anorexia and bulimia, ages 17- 28, approximately. The group will concentrate on your continuing recovery issues as it relates to addressing eating disordered thinking and behaviors and returning to full living in relation to socializing, relationships, school, and work. The focus is on the “dinosaur” of recovery – body image. Other themes that will be addressed are independence, separating from one’s family, adjusting to college, living on one’s own, being responsible for one’s own health and recovery. New York, NY - The Eating Disorder Resource Center offers an ongoing psychotherapy group for younger women (ages 21-31) who struggle with bulimia. It's every Wednesday from 7:15-8:30pm and $60 a session.
