Atascadero, CA/San Luis Obispo County: On-going therapy group available for those suffering as a result of restrictive eating, binge-eating, and/or purging. The group meets once a week in a confidential and caring setting where both tears and laughter are a part of the healing process. A Holistic, Humanistic & Cognitive Behavioral approach is combined to assist clients in learning not to fear their needs or wants and how to separate the true self from the eating disorder. Lake Forest, CA: Family Resource/Support Group. This support group is appropriate for anyone whose loved one is or may be suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, compulsive overeating, or binge eating disorder. Participants learn about eating disorders, what they can and cannot do to help, and how to best manage the effects the disorder has on relationships. Licensed therapists specializing in eating disorders provide psychoeducation and tips to help families gain coping skills to better facilitate the recovery process. Denver, CO: Outpatient Support Group Schedule, Art Therapy Group: Monday 5:30-7:00pm. This weekly group utilizes art and creativity by incorporating various types of art media to facilitate a connection with others and self. The group will emphasize mindfulness, self-discovery and the actions needed to maintain a recovery focus. Cost is $30 per group. Mind, Body, Spirit Group: Tuesdays 6:00–7:30pm. This group utilizes a variety of experiential approaches to take participants deeper into the emotional and spiritual difficulties underlying eating disorders and other self-destructive behavior patterns. This group is best suited for anyone wishing to explore the deeper aspects of one’s experience. The goal of this group is to face issues which reinforce self-destructive behavior patterns, and to discover, strengthen, and accept one’s authentic identity. Topics addressed include body image, trauma, family dynamics, healthy emotions, healthy relationships, boundaries, spirituality, and more. Cost is $30 per group. Binge Eating Disorder group (BED) Process group: Wednesday 6:00-7:30 pm. This weekly group provides a safe place to offer and receive support through an ongoing therapeutic process. Group members commit to participation in this process with peers who also struggle with binge eating. Group is designed for individuals in recovery, who have completed an intensive eating disorder program or who are in sustained recovery with an on-going outpatient treatment. Cost is $30 per group. Foundational Skills for Recovery: Thursdays 6:00-7:30pm. This group offers participants the opportunity to learn and practice Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills for living in recovery. Using Mindfulness as a foundation, participants learn how to achieve balance in relationships, in times of distress, and in thinking and emotional patterns. The goal of this group is to provide new and concrete skills which help participants reduce unnecessary suffering and the power of the eating disorder. Cost is $30 per group. ANAD (Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders) - Saturdays 1:30-2:30pm - A free support group open to the community for individuals suffering and recovering from eating disorders. Florham Park, NJ: DBT Skills Group. The goal of this group is to help the members develop skills for effectively living their lives without compulsively eating, binging, purging, not eating at all or compulsively exercising. Often we just don't have the skills needed to do so. This program was designed to help each member achieve an enhanced quality of life. Through the following modules: (1) Core Mindfulness –To increase self awareness and learn to focus effectively on one thing at a time. (2) Distress Tolerance Skills- Consist of techniques and crisis survival strategies. These skills help individuals to behave in a less impulsive and self-destructive manner. (3) Emotional Regulation- Presents a model for discussing and understanding emotions, as well as methods to decrease negative emotions and to increase positive emotions. Montclair, NJ - Young Adult Eating Disorder Recovery Group. This weekly psychotherapy group is for young adult women struggling with anorexia and bulimia, ages 17- 28, approximately. The group will concentrate on your continuing recovery issues as it relates to addressing eating disordered thinking and behaviors and returning to full living in relation to socializing, relationships, school, and work. The focus is on the “dinosaur” of recovery – body image. Other themes that will be addressed are independence, separating from one’s family, adjusting to college, living on one’s own, being responsible for one’s own health and recovery. This group is for people struggling with compulsive eating, food addiction, bulimia and body image concerns. This group helps break isolation, create better connections outside of the therapy room and empower participants to achieve a full recovery. This structured group will reinforce skills learned in group sessions.
